Centers and Clinics

The College of Arts and Sciences houses a number of centers and facilities which have been designed to enhance the learning environment of our students and assist them throughout their academic career. These facilities offer a wide variety of services across many academic areas across the College.

  • Center for the Study of Kentucky History and Politics
    The Center for the Study of Kentucky History and Politics is the only one of its kind in Kentucky. The Center will encourage and support significant research and schoarly writing on the history and politics of the Commonwealth and engage various groups of citizens in meaningful discussions about the result of research. One spcial mission of the Center is to encourage and promote the study of Kentucky history and politics in Kentucky's elementary and secondary schools, with conferences and seminars specifically designed for teachers.

  • Chemistry Tutorial Center
    The Chemistry Tutorial Center was designed to offer students taking 100-level Chemistry courses free tutoring.

  • Center for Economic Education
    The mission of the EKU Center for Economic Education is to improve the economic literacy of Kentucky citizens by providing education, training, and materials for teachers in grades K-12, with particular emphasis on the counties in the EKU service region. Consultants are available for any type of economics instruction that may be needed; however, the Center is primarily involved in professional development workshops and graduate instruction for in-service teachers, undergraduate instruction for pre-service teachers, and research in economic education.

  • EKU Writing Center
    The Eastern Kentucky University Writing Center is a valuable academic resource for every EKU student. The Writing Center offers assistance in brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, research, and writing across the disciplines; helps with the study and comprehension of literature; provides information, preparation, and counseling for the University Writing Requirement (UWAR); and offers a walk-in computer lab. The lab also offers the services of a librarian (by appointment only) in order to assist with research.

  • English Language Instruction Program
    The EKU English Language Instruction Program (EELI) offers an intensive program of English as a Second Language to non-native speakers of English. The Program's objectives focus on fostering a welcoming, non-threatening language-learning environment which prepares students for study in American colleges and Universities. The Program is open to all students wishing to improve their English skills for personal, academic and professional purposes.

  • Geographical Studies and Research Center
    The Geographical Studies and Research Center, in conjunction with the Department of Geography and Planning, provides a variety of services and technical assistance to public officials an/or governmental agencies at the local, regional, and state levels. The Center serves as a "clearinghouse" for geographic studies, research, and publication, negotiates for the funding of proposed research and/or development bids for contracted research, serves as a site for educational and pre-professional training for students, and serves as a funding agent for preliminary investigation of worthwhile research (contingent upon the accumulation of sufficient funds).

  • Institute of Government
    The Institute of Government is a public service arm of Eastern Kentucky University. The Institute provides a wide range of contract services and fee-for-services to state and local governments and nonprofit organizations. Some services provided by the Institute include: services to professional associations; professional certification programs; conference administration, evaluation studies and surveys; customer satisfaction systems; economic and community development studies; survey system and design; strategic planning for communities and non porofit organizations; nonprofit administration and management and international education programs in management and policy.

  • Mathematics/Statistics Tutoring Center
    The Math/Stat Tutoring Center is located in the Wallace Building. The Center provides a variety of tutoring services to students taking classes in the areas of Developmental Math, General Studies and Math Service, Math for Teachers, and Statistics.

  • Psychology Clinic
    The Psychology Clinic is a training, service, and research facility operated by the Department of Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University. The Clinic offers a wide range of outpatient psychological services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families as well as consultation and training to other professionals and the community. Services are provided by individuals working on graduate degrees in clinical or school psychology and have received specialized graduate training. All clinicians are closely supervised by licensed members of the clinical and school psychology faculty. Some of the services provided by the Clinic include: individual and group therapy, psychological testing, intellectual assessment, academic assesment, vocational assessment and counseling, family therapy, marital/relationship therapy, parent training and counseling, stress management, grief/victim counseling, assertiveness training, and smoking cessation.

  • CAS Technology Information Center
    The College of Arts & Sciences Technology Information Center (TIC) is a Computer Center that offers a wide variety of services to faculty, staff and students. Located in Memorial Science 270, the Center houses a variety of technological equipment including 21 PC computers, flatbed and slide/film scanners, black and white and color laser printing, wide format printing and a film recorder (puts digital images on film). Software packages available in the Center include Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver MX (for website development) as well as many "class specific" software programs.
