Dr. Tom Otieno

SUMMARY: An academic administrative position responsible for various College activities related to the administration of the College and to faculty and staff personnel and policy issues. Assists with faculty appointments, chairperson appointments and other administrative or personnel special projects and activities as assigned by the Dean. Promotes and supports the research mission of the College, including assisting faculty members in their pursuit of external funding for scholarship (e.g. discovery research, creative endeavors, instruction) and service activities, and fostering interdisciplinary research. Teaches part-time in one of the departments in the College. Reports directly to the Dean.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Compile and maintain statistical profile records at the college level.
- Participate in preparation of annual college report.
- Receive material for internal publication of “Faculty Accomplishments” and have them distributed to university faculty.
- Review promotion and tenure procedures.
- Attend College Promotion and Tenure Committee meetings.
- Represent the Dean’s office at grievance appeals at the college level.
- Develop and revise college policy statements and administrative procedures as needed.
- Participate with other associate and assistant deans in college administration, including conducting interviews of chair candidates.
- Serve on college and/or university committees, as requested by Dean .
- Carry out special administrative affairs projects for the Office of the Dean.
- Represent the college in the absence of the Dean (shared with Associate Dean as appropriate).
- Provide administrative leadership and coordination of all research efforts of the College.
- Review research proposals for approval by the Dean and submission to appropriate offices.
- Maintain data on current research projects, grants and contracts.
- Work with the Dean to organize a research development plan for the college.
- Conduct annual evaluation and needs assessment for research and instructional equipment.
- Facilitate faculty research, scholarship and creative endeavors.
- Foster interdisciplinary research.
- Promote the application of research/creative activities to enhance instruction by fostering student involvement in faculty research/creative activities.
