Dr. Michael Foster
SUMMARY: The Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs is primarily responsible to the Dean in providing academic leadership for the College of Arts and Sciences and is additionally responsible for other duties as assigned by the Dean. More specifically, the Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs is expected to provide leadership in the areas of academic curriculum and program development, academic advising, student learning assessment and retention, general education, and instructional technology.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Provide college-wide leadership in coursework and program development and assessment.
- Promote development of intra- and inter-college interdisciplinary courses and programs.
- Serve as chair of the college Curriculum Committee.
- Represent the college on the Council on Academic Affairs.
- Provide administrative oversight of student academic regulations and recordss including certifying undergraduate degree requirements.
- Provide college-wide leadership for student advising.
- Provide college-wide leadership for student recruitment and retention.
- Provide leadership for and supervision of general education in the college.
- Take a leadership role in the university-wide General Education Program.
- Serve as vice-chair of the university General Education Committee.
- Serve as member of the university Assessment Committee representing general education.
- Provide college-wide leadership in the delivery of instructional technology.
- Serve as chair of the college Technology Work Group.
- Assist the Dean with the college promotion and tenure process.
- Provide administrative oversight of the College Technology Information Center (TIC) and Network Administration.
- Provide administrative oversight of the college Chemical Safety Officer and serve as co-chair of the college Safety Committee.
- Provide administrative oversight of the Chemical Storage Facility.
