Laura D. Kennamer Scholarship in the Social and Behavioral Sciences
The Laura D. Kennamer Scholarship Program, established by the late Laura D. Kennamer, aids and fosters the educational experience of students attending Eastern Kentucky University who are majoring in programs in the areas of Social and Behavioral Sciences. There are two types of scholarship offered under the Kennamer program, Kennamer Campus Scholar for study on campus during the fall and spring terms and Kennamer Study Abroad for study outside the United States.
Recipients are chosen by a committee chaired by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and comprised of the appropriate departmental Chairs or their nominees. The committee will review applications annually for both Kennamer Scholarship programs.
Kennamer Campus Scholar Applicants: The application is to be completed along with the other required materials stated below and is to be submitted to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences by February 15th of each year. Recipients will be notified no later than March 15th for awards effective the following academic year.
The Scholarship amounts will vary as based upon investment returns and tuition expenses. In the initial round, Kennamer Campus Scholars received $5,600 for the academic year. Students must maintain a 3.25 GPA or the scholarship will be revoked. The scholarship is not automatically renewable but past recipients are eligible to apply again.
Kennamer Study Abroad Scholar Applicants: The application form and supporting materials are due by October 15 each year for study in the spring or summer terms that follow. Kennamer Study Abroad Scholarship amounts vary with the budget submitted by applicants. The study abroad experience the student proposes must grant at least three semester hours of credit from an EKU-affiliated Study Abroad program that applies toward an EKU degree. The Study Abroad award is a one time award that does not repeat. Kennamer Campus Scholars are eligible to apply. Recipients will be notified no later than November 15.
