About the College…..
The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest and most broadly based academic unit at Eastern Kentucky University. Wide-ranging associate, baccalaureate, and masters degrees are offered through our 16 departments in the creative and performing arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics and natural sciences.
The primary mission of the college is to equip students with the intellectual skills, knowledge, and tools that will enable them to compete successfully in a complex, diverse, and rapidly changing world. To achieve this mission, students, faculty, and staff work collaboratively through a series of programs, activities, and experiences that are guided by the unifying principles of learning, discovery, and community.
Academic programs in the college are student-centered and directed at preparing graduates for life-long learning which is essential in our technologically sophisticated society. Primarily, this student-centered learning is guided by comprehensive and up-to-date programs of study delivered through high quality classroom and web-based instruction by talented and caring faculty members. In addition to classroom instruction, students participate in a number of other learning experiences including cooperative education and internships, distance education, working on faculty directed research projects, and study abroad programs.
Discovery is a fundamental process in higher education and contributes to the creation, distribution, and application of new information and knowledge. Students will discover things about themselves, the disciplines they study, and the world beyond. They will engage in critical thinking and creative expression, develop computational and problem-solving skills, test hypotheses, and explore the world of ideas.
Students will also experience what it is like to be part of a dynamic learning community that values ethics, diversity, openness, debate, mutual respect, varying points of view, and tolerance. Come and be part of an academic community that will prepare you to take your place in a global village.
Whether you are a current student, prospective student, parent, alum, or friend, I hope you will find this website useful and informative. We look forward to working with you.
